Türkiye, the European leader in ready mixed concrete production
Turkish Ready Mixed Concrete Association (THBB) has published the "Ready-Mixed Concrete Industry Report", which analyzes the ready mixed concrete sector, which makes significant contributions to our country's economy, in 2022.
The report, prepared with the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the Central Bank, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), and the information provided by THBB members, manufacturers and suppliers other than THBB, showed that Turkey maintains its position as the leading country in Europe in ready-mixed concrete production. THBB's report revealed the place of the ready mixed concrete sector in the Turkish economy and construction sector with its turnover exceeding 32 billion Turkish lira, employment volume exceeding 37 thousand and annual production of 105 million cubic meters.
Stating that some of the problems in the building inspection processes made the producers suffer, the report drew attention to the need to provide the infrastructure that will pave the way for all ready-mixed concrete producers in Turkey to gather under the roof of THBB.
According to the 2021 data of the European Ready Mixed Concrete Association (ERMCO), the total production amount of EU member countries is 272.5 million cubic meters, while Turkey alone produces 105 million cubic meters of concrete.
Drawing attention to the fact that the construction sector, which displayed a growth performance in the first two quarters of 2021, shrank until the last quarter of 2022, it was emphasized that there was a serious gap between GDP and construction sector growth during this period.
In the report, it was stated that the fragile structure of the construction sector has been continuing for a long time. Making evaluations about the Ready Mixed Concrete Sector Report, Turkish Ready Mixed Concrete Association (THBB) Chairman of the Board Yavuz Işık said, “The results of the sector research, which are compatible with the cement domestic sales and ready mixed concrete production index data in previous years, diverged in 2022.
It is estimated that the ready-mixed concrete industry has grown between 0% and 5% in 2022. Sharing his evaluations about 2023, Yavuz Işık said, "It is estimated that the sector will shrink by 5 percent in the pessimistic scenario and grow by 10 percent in the optimistic scenario".
