Construction material exports increased by 9.5 percent
While Turkey increased its construction material exports by 9.5 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year, it increased its share in the world export market to 2.79 percent.

Emphasizing that the Turkey İMSAD Building Sector Report sheds light on all the activities of the sector in the last 5 years, Tayfun Küçükoğlu said, “The world economy was exposed to the disruptive effects of the Russia-Ukraine War that broke out at the beginning of 2022. The war changed many balances in the world, especially energy supply security and prices. High commodity prices globally, global high inflation, uncertainties in the economy in the domestic market, and the deteriorated supply-demand balance, especially on the real estate side, stood out as the issues that challenged our industry last year.”

Construction material market grew by 8 percent
In the 'Turkey IMSAD Building Sector Report 2022', which analyzes the basic data of the construction sector and the construction material industry, along with general evaluations and predictions for the world and Turkish economy, the following information regarding the construction material industry came to the fore:
In 2022, the world construction material market grew by 2.3 percent compared to the previous year and reached $6.35 trillion.
In 2022, world construction material exports increased by 8.1 percent compared to the previous year and reached 1.21 trillion dollars.
In the world's construction material exports, China continued to be the largest exporter country with 307.6 billion dollars.
Turkey became the 5th largest exporter country in 2022 with 33.74 billion dollars of exports.
As of 2022, the largest importer was the USA with 166.0 billion dollars. U.S. imports increased by 21.3 percent in 2022 compared to last year.
Turkey became the 29th importer country with a construction material import of 10.48 billion dollars in 2022, rising 7 steps compared to the previous year.
In 2022, Türkiye's construction materials industry production increased by only 0.2 percent compared to 2021. Industrial production slowed down, especially with the decline in foreign demand.
The Turkish construction materials domestic market grew by 107.9 percent in 2022 at current prices and amounted to 1,185 billion TL.

The top 3 countries from which Turkey imports most construction materials were again China, Germany and Italy. The rate of meeting the domestic market with imports increased to 14.8%.
Construction materials net foreign trade surplus reached $23.26 billion in 2022.
In the foreign trade of construction materials, exports decreased by 11 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year and decreased to 57.65 million tons, while imports increased by 17.5 percent and reached 3.56 million tons.
While the average export unit prices were 0.48 dollars/kg in 2021, they were realized as 0.59 dollars/kg in 2022.
